Are you looking for purpose? A sense of meaning?
Is depression or anxiety keeping your perspective too fixed or narrow?
Are you struggling with current events and want to help, but don't know how?
One simple remedy:
Volunteer!
When life is stressful it can be difficult to make time for new things. Volunteering pays you back, with interest.
There is a great variety of ways to share your time: food banks, animal welfare, hospice, education, art, health care.
Contribution is powerful medicine for self and others.
Small acts of kindness:
pick up litter (or dog poo!)
shovel your neighbor's driveway
tell a cashier they are doing a great job
let someone go first in line
babysit for free
make a home cooked meal for someone
Excellent volunteering resources for the Greater Seattle area:
Farmhouse Chili
This is loaded with veggies! Also delicious vegan: try Impossible Beef, or just leave out the meat and double the beans.
brown 1# ground beef in large skillet
add 2-3 cans Amy's Chili
add 1 large bunch rainbow chard, chopped
salt, pepper and garlic to taste
stir, cover with a lid and bring to light simmer
Chili is ready when all the greens are wilted
Serve with sliced avocado
For added flavor, choose fire roasted diced canned tomatoes and add additional chili powder. Chili powder won't be "hot". If you want more heat, add cayenne or red pepper flakes.
